A bit about me, Tracey

Greetings curious visitor, I’m Tracey, a clay artist from Pictou County, known for my creativity and exploration. Someone once said to me “I want to see inside your head lady”, I assure you it’s filled with moss, mushrooms, coffee and fae folk galore as well as the occasional day dream about owls visiting my garden. If I imagine it hard enough, maybe it will happen for real, not just clay form!

I enjoy making unique art dolls and figurines, some closer to reality, but many with a whimsical nature and a magical shimmer that suggest they come from another realm altogether… And on occasion I write about some of those realms, original little stories that accompany the characters. I also enjoy photography, capturing the scenes that unfold naturally when you let your life be dazzled with the shenanigans of elves. Whether it’s an elder forest protector elf wandering through the snow in the middle of the night before her body is even completed, the antics of amanita muscaria deep in the forest, or the gleeful shenanigans of a furry monster as he goes on exciting adventures.

I’m a multimedia artist, but I favor sculpting with the modern magic of polymer clays, then painting and finishing with fabric, moss, wood, and found objects. I draw from my imagination to bring to life whimsical, expressive and unexpected characters from my home in Trenton, Nova Scotia. Whether it’s chortling chanterelles, dragons hoarding driftwood, adventurous elves, flower sniffing whales or SourPuss pickles to hang on your Christmas tree, when it pops into my head, it’s just a matter of time before my next creation appears, filling the world with a bit of fun and a lot of character. You’ll find me most often at my clay desk squish squooshing my clay, coaxing the next creature into the world.

I am happily married, live a plant based life, practice daily yoga and can often be found adventuring with my husband through nearby Trenton park taking my little characters along for a photographic adventure. If you’re ever out on a forest stroll and spot a lady sitting on the woodland floor, chatting with cranky boletus, it’s probably me. Say hello, we can look for fairy portals together.

Keeping an eye on cheerful chanterelles loose in the forest.
In the woodlands with my basket full of characters, eager to visit the moss and have their photos taken amongst the tree roots.

Fiona the witch, mid process, teaches me how to properly sneer….or was it the other way around….? Hmmm
